  • Howdy MustardHeads!  Welcome to Uncle Jim’s Winter Newsletter.  Now that Jack Frost has made an appearance or two…Brrrrr…it’s time to cozy up to Christmas.  By far this is the “little ones’” favorite holiday and it is right around the corner, Football season is in high gear, and that means hours of sitting on the couch engulfing brats, beer, and Uncle Jim’s!

  • Come and see Uncle Jim at the GIANT St. William’s Church Christmas Craft show Saturday, December 10th from 9-3. Special Christmas gift baskets all wrapped up for gift giving!! • Uncle Jim is knee deep in Wasabi, that is a good thing as he has been busy ramping up production of our newest mustard, Uncle Jim’s Wasabi Pepper Mustard.  It’s definitely been a learning experience as Uncle Jim has learned more than he really needs to know about chemical reactions and how temperature can directly affect how a substance interacts with taste buds.  But, it appears most of the problems have been solved, and our 3rd flavor is now available for sale!.

  • Our 2nd Anniversary photo contest was held in early November.  We asked everyone to simply submit any photo containing, depicting, or referring to any flavor of Uncle Jim’s Pepper Mustard and you would be entered to win an Uncle Jim’s Sampler Pack shipped to your house TOTALLY FREE!  Congratulations to our winner Hadley Smithhisler from Indianapolis who won an Uncle Jim’s Sampler pack shipped free to her house.  And, she is the only one winning in Indy this year (sorry Colts fan(s)…but, been there, done that…ok, well maybe not THAT!) Thanks to all who submitted photos, we really had a lot of great pics.  Stay tuned for our next contest and your chance to bring home some awesome Uncle Jim’s products and gear!

  • Winter’s Featured Recipe – Uncle Jim’s Stuffed Bacon Cheeseburger – What you ask?  Not a fancy Christmas recipe?  This IS a gift of a meal…Santa gives it two big thumbs up (check his belly,) and it gives you more reason to make those New Year’s Resolutions that will be broken by Lincoln’s birthday.

You will need:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef – has to be 80-20 or 73-27…none of that 93-7 healthy stuff…c’mon…live a little!

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or ½ cup cheddar and ½ cup jack cheese)

  • 1/2 large onion diced

  • 1/4 pound chopped, crisp cooked bacon

  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned or Kosher salt

  • 2 tablespoons beer

  • Uncle Jim’s Pepper Mustard – Your choice of flavor – as needed to top

Preparation:

Combine bacon, onion, cheese and set aside. Combine beef, salt and beer, mix thoroughly, then shape into 6 thin patties. Put bacon/onion/cheese mixture on 3 patties (you can toss a tablespoon of your favorite Uncle Jim’s Pepper Mustard flavor here too.) Top with remaining patties and press edges to seal. Voila…easy stuffed burgers.  Grill, broil, or pan fry until done to your liking, might take a bit longer as these are stuffed.  Well done (for the health police) is about 4 minutes per side.  Top with Uncle Jim’s Pepper Mustard and anything else your heart desires…these rock on toasted buns!

Uncle Jim’s Stats

  • Hot Fact: It is believed that mustard was first cultivated in India around 3000 BC, and later taken to Britain by the Romans who used it as a condiment and pickling spice.  Mustard was known for its medicinal purposes before its culinary uses.  It was first mentioned as a curative in the Greek’s Hippocratic writings.  In the form of mustard paste it was used for general muscular relief and to help “cure” toothaches. It also became known to stimulate appetite and digestion, help clear sinuses, and increase blood circulation.  Mustard flour can even be sprinkled in your socks to help prevent frostbite.

We hope you found our newsletter fun and informative. We plan to keep them up until they are no longer fun, or, we run out of things to say, whichever comes first. We couldn’t do all this without you, so keep sending us your recipes, comments, suggestions and stories, and together, we will paint the town…er…yellow…Life’s too short, open the jar!
